Sohmer Grand Pianos for sale
Sohmer was founded in 1872 in New York by Hugo Sohmer, the inventor of the baby grand. The factory in which Sohmer pianos were manufactured was family owned and remained in New York for 110 years until Samick Music Corporation, which is the world's largest piano company purchased it and moved Sohmer's production facilities to South Korea. Even though the factory is no longer located in New York and is now in South Korea instead, Samick Music Corporation still continues to uphold Sohmer's longstanding reputation of producing quality pianos for competitive prices.
Sohmer pianos are considered to be among the most beautiful pianos in the world by many and are particularly well known for their magnificent and elegant cabinets. This reputation has been earned very shortly since Sohmer's first inception in 1872. Sohmer grands start at about $15,000 and are considered to be in the middle range.
Sohmer pianos have maple outer rims and Pratt Reed Premium Action for hornbeam rails. Sohmer uses solid brass hardware, forged brass pedals, and sand cast plates. The soundboards are made using Strunz, which is a German solid spruce. The keybed and beams are also made of spruce while the dowels are made of maple. Sohmer pianos all have lacquered semi-gloss finishes.
This was the famous Sohmer creed: "To build the finest piano that human integrity, skill, knowledge, craftsmanship, and family tradition can possibly produce; to utilize the world's markets to procure the best materials regardless of cost; to maintain that quality unswervingly, and never to sacrifice one iota to gain an added profit, no matter how great; to preserve the integrity and individuality of the Sohmer institution free from outside affiliation or influences; and to be governed always and under all circumstances by sound principles, and never by expediency."
