Bosendorfer Grand Pianos for sale
Ignaz Bosendorfer was born in 1794. He was the son of Jakob Bosendorfer, a master cabinet maker in Vienna. Ignaz began an apprenticeship with Josef Brodmann, an organ and piano builder in Vienna, at a young age of 19. He later applied for a trade license to set up his own piano manufacturing company in 1828 and took over Brodmann's business. His pianos became famous almost overnight and even the Austrian Emperor conferred them the title of "Imperial and Royal Court and Chamber Piano Manufacturer." Upon his death in 1859, Ignaz's son, Ludwig, who was born in 1835 succeeded the manufacturing company.
Bosendorfer offers standard models, conservatory series, special editions, limited editions, designed models, and even digital grand pianos. The Bosendorfer standard models are played throughout the whole world and are the models of choice when it comes to music teaching and private music. Bosendorfer pianos are generally made with beech, spruce, or maple. Depending on the type of wood and plank size, the wood is seasoned outdoors for up to 5 years and a further 12 - 15 weeks in the drying room.
The Hallmarks of Bosendorfer grand pianos are:
- manufactured by hand in Vienna, which is the music capital of the world
- built using the highest possible proportion of sound-spruce
- feature a screwed-on capo d'astro bar in the treble
- have single stringing
- Bosendorfer's "resonating box principle", which views the whole instrument as a cohesive sound unit, thus producing the uniquely rich tone color and characteristic singing timbre
- the open wrest-plank which ensures excellent tunability and tuning stability due to the optimum fit of the tuning pins in the wrest-plank
These hallmarks are what make the Bosendorfer pianos different from the rest and even pianists and singers come in to visit when they are in Vienna. This intimate relationship with the music world is what makes the Bosendorfer pianos something truly special.
